The Role:-

The Design Engineer will be involved in the creation of bespoke product designs for use in the automotive industry. The Design Engineer will be a member of a engineering team located in a satellite organization in the Midlands area and will be a member of a cross-functional team involved in New Product Introductions. The involvement in the evolution of the product will be from the creation of initial concepts through to the start of production and subsequent product and on-going customer support activities. This will involve liaising with customers design engineering representatives to agree specifications, space envelopes and final design solutions for the bespoke products. The Design Engineer will also be responsible for adherence to both external and internal prescribed NPI processes, which encompasses all elements of the typical automotive APQP process.

The responsibilities include, but not limited to, the following:-

·Creation of conceptual designs to suit customer requirements.

·Assisting in the preparation of commercial quotations for the concepts.

·Developing the concept through to final design intent.

·Being an active member of the project cross-functional team

·Liaising with customers engineering representative.

·Participating in Design reviews both internally and externally with customers

·Detailing the final design intent for manufacturing.

·Compiling detailed Bills of Materials for the final design

·Participating in Design and Process FMEA’s

·Organising and over-seeing the build of the prototype system.

·Over-seeing the installation of the system into the machine or cab.

·Participating in the testing of the prototype system.

·Preparation of all the information that is required for introducing the system into production.

In order to perform the above responsibilities effectively the Design Engineer will have to be capable of communicating with all levels of personnel from Senior Management and Shop Floor personnel within the company through to customers and suppliers.


·Preferably a Degree in Mechanical Engineering, which has encompassed the subjects of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.

·Design Engineers with an alternative qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and some relevant experience will be considered for the position.

·Preferably with experience of working within an automotive environment.

·Pro-Engineer experience, including surfacing is highly desirable although training will be made available to suitable candidates.

·Microsoft Office.

Full driving licence is required and a willingness to travel worldwide
