Reporting to the Purchasing Manager the role requires knowledge and understanding of a broad range of manufacturing/ purchasing processes. You will have extensive knowledge of purchasing direct, indirect and consumable material and the ability to work in a fast paced and commercially demanding environment. Duties and responsibilities: Buyer
Benchmarking and negotiation of products with a focus on reducing cost and adding value and value engineering.
Researching and reviewing of the supply market in order to identify potential suppliers
Managing day-to-day supplier relationships in a professional and effective manner
The Buyer will work to minimise the impact of price increases and maximise cost avoidance.
Minimise raw material inventory levels.
The improvement and monitoring of supplier performance through the application of vendor rating systems and key performance indicators (KPIs)
Ensuring supplier quality performance in conjunction with the quality department.
Managing the scheduling of direct materials in line with requirements using MRP/ERP systems.
The monitoring and resolution of supplier invoicing issues.
The evaluation, planning and transfer of supply base consolidation programmes to gain maximum leverage within commodity areas.
Support the Purchasing Manager the formulation of sourcing strategies to meet the needs of the business.
Key Requirements: Buyer
Excellent computer literacy, fully proficient in all Microsoft packages, particularly Excel
Strong benchmarking, negotiation and influencing skills
Ability to demonstrate problem solving and corrective action development
Strong numerical analysis of data
Good product management and stock control skills
·Must be familiar with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems
Fully committed, versatile and flexible

·Ability to work on own initiative
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to communicate at all levels of the business
The successful candidate will be qualified at degree level or equivalent and a Chartered Member of CIPS is desirable. The successful candidate will also have a minimum of three years’ experience within a similar role, preferably within the manufacturing/ automotive or, aerospace industry.
You will have experience of being a Buyer in a fast moving Manufacturing or Engineering organisation
travel to work from Ebbw Vale, Merthyr, Cwmbran, Brecon, Tredegar, Pontypool, Newport
